The Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease Needs Us

The mind may not remember, but the heart will never forget.

  • Alzheimer’s is the only disease among the top 10 causes of death in America that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.
  • Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.
  • In 2018, more than 16 million caregivers of people living with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias provided an estimated 18.5 billion hours of unpaid care, a contribution to the nation valued at more than $234 billion.
  • In 2019, Alzheimer's disease will cost the United States $290 billion. This number is projected to rise to more than $1.1 trillion in 2050.
  • Between 2000 and 2017, deaths from Alzheimer's has increased 145 percent.
  • Every 65 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease.
  • One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
  • Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s disease are women.
  • Nearly 13 million American women are either living with Alzheimer's disease or caring for someone who has it.
  • Alzheimer's is not just a disease of old age. Younger-onset Alzheimer's affects people younger than age 65. Up to 5 percent of the more than 5 million Americans with Alzheimer’s have younger onset.

“I had no idea that someone that young could even get Alzheimer’s. The speed and aggressiveness with which it attacks...You forget how to walk and move and talk.  It's hard to conceive how brutal it really is.”
– Seth Rogen
